Discrete signatures are invariants extracted from a discretised version ofpaths that resembles the iterated integral signature of rough paths. In thispaper we study the image of these discrete signatures, the discrete signaturevariety, and begin a classification of the primary signatures, elements thatplay a crucial role in computing the dimension of the associated Lie algebra.We also present some generators of this variety and the results of someMacaulay2 code to that effect.
